My friend Thérèse's grandmother, "Mimi," passed away. She was an artist, designer, did volunteer work, was a private investigator, and mother of three. Thérèse commissioned me to ink a portrait of Mimi as a gift to Thérèse's father for his birthday. These portrait projects can be difficult—an accurate likeness makes or breaks it. A portrait of a loved one who's passed should be simple, void of unnecessary details. A lot has to be said in the expression. Though these projects are challenging, they are equally rewarding. To be a part of a gift like this is some of the best stuff in life.
