The map on this website shows locations where I made drawings. The fuchsia pins are places I left a drawing (e.g. in a hostel, guest house, or cafe). The yellow pins are drawings that I kept. Click a pin to see the drawing for that place. When I leave a drawing somewhere, I write a "code word" on it—for other travelers to find. The code word is used on the drawing detail page to unlock more information about that place.
Why a travel sketchbook?
Keeping a journal feels unatural for me. I never know what to write or how to write it well. Drawing is a better fit. Drawing pictures of what I see unburdens the moment with words and grammer. It can just be fog on the Drakensburg Mountains, a chicken picking for worms, or a guy holding a TV in an alley—the image tells the story without the need for a beginning, middle, and end.
